Annotatsiya

Abstract

The article analyses trauma-informed and restorative approaches as complementary psychological mechanisms for protecting the rights and well-being of minors in the juvenile justice system. It examines how traumatic experience, violence, family dysfunction, stigmatization and repeated contact with law enforcement and judicial bodies affect a child’s emotional state and behaviour. It is shown that the trauma-informed approach shifts the professional focus from the question “what is wrong with this child?” to questions about the child’s lived experience, current needs, resources and conditions of safety. The restorative approach is considered a means of fostering responsibility without humiliation, repairing damaged relationships and achieving social reintegration. The importance of diversion, an individual support plan, interagency case management and psychological support for the family is substantiated. A model is proposed that integrates safety, child participation, restoration, responsibility and reintegration.
