Abstract

The article examines the predictive significance of characterological factors in adolescents’ career choice through a directed theoretical and empirical synthesis. Evidence is reviewed on the relationships of personality traits with career decidedness, career indecision, career decision-making self-efficacy, vocational identity, interests and planning. The synthesis indicates that conscientiousness is relatively consistently associated with career decidedness and vocational identity, whereas neuroticism or emotional instability is more often linked to indecision, anxiety and career self-doubt.
